The greatest enemy is... your own soul within your skin. By its nature, it leads you to evil and makes you flee from good. It orders you to do evil. The soul loves calmness and relaxation. It desires free time and idleness. It is swept away with desires. It will happily follow its present lusts even though they may lead to its misery and destruction. If you realize this you can take it upon yourself to struggle against your soul. You declare war against it. You prepare your weapons to do battle with it. You determine to struggle against its heedlessness and immaturity. You are ready to contend with your desires. If your soul wants rest put it to work. If it seeks desires, you forbid it. If it falls short in obeying God or doing good deeds, you punish it or censure it. Then you make it peform what it failed to do by making up what it missed. You follow the disciplining course until the soul becomes tranquil, pure and wholesome. This is the goal of striving against oneself, you become befitting of God's special blessings and pleasure. This is the training of the pious and the path of the sincere, true believers. At-Taghabun (Loss and Gain) 64:11 NO CALAMITY can ever befall [man] unless it be by God's leave: hence, whoever believes in God guides his [own] heart [towards this truth]; [9] and God has full knowledge of everything. (64:11) Maryam (Mary) 19:76 And God endows those who avail themselves of [His] guidance with an ever-deeper consciousness of the right way; [64] and good deeds, the fruit whereof endures forever, are, in thy Sustainer's sight, of far greater merit [than any worldly goods], and yield far better returns. (19:76) Al-An'am (The Cattle) 6:125 And whomsoever God wills to guide, his bosom He opens wide with willingness towards self-surrender [unto Him]; and whomsoever He wills to let go astray, his bosom He causes to be tight and constricted, as if he were climbing unto the skies: it is thus that God inflicts horror upon those who will not believe. (6:125) Al-Isra (The Journey by Night) 17:97 And he whom God guides, he alone has found the right way; whereas for those whom He lets go astray thou canst never find anyone to protect them from Him: and [so, when] We shall gather them together on the Day of Resurrection, [they will lie] prone upon their faces, blind and dumb and deaf, with hell as their goal; [and] every time [the fire] abates, We shall increase for them [its] blazing flame. (17:97) Al-'Ankabut (The Spider) 29:69 But as for those who strive hard in Our cause -We shall most certainly guide them onto paths that lead unto Us: [61] for, behold, God is indeed with the doers of good. (29:69) I Asked for Strength, by anonymous I asked for Strength......... And God gave me Difficulties to make strong. I asked for Wisdom......... And God gave me Problems to solve. I asked for Prosperity......... And God gave me Brain and Brawn to work. I asked for Courage......... And God gave me Danger to overcome. I asked for Love......... And God gave me Troubled people to help. I asked for Favours......... And God gave me Opportunities. I received nothing I wanted I received everything I needed My Prayer has been answered Promises, by unknown God hath not promised Skies always blue, Flower-strewn pathways All our lives through. God hath not promised Sun without rain, Joy without sorrow, Peace without pain. But God hath promised Strength for the day, Rest for the labor, Light for the way Grace for the trials, Help from above, Unfailing sympathy Undying love . . . LORD LET ME LAUGH AGAIN, BUT NEVER LET ME FORGET THAT I CRIED.
Poem On Acceptance, by Anonymous
(The only person on earth you need to be accepted by is yourself.)
When you get what you want in the struggle for the self,
And the world makes you king and queen for the day,
Just go to a mirror and look at yourself,
And see what that person has to say!
For it isn't your father, mother, friend or host,
Whose judgement upon you must pass;
The person whose verdict counts the most,
Is the one staring from the glass.
Some may think you are a wonderful chum,
And call you as radiant as the sun;
But if the person in the mirror says you're dumb,
And you can't look him in the eye - you're done.
He is the one to please, never mind the rest,
For he will be with you until the end,
And you will have passed your most difficult test
If the person in the mirror becomes your friend.
You may fool the whole world along the years,
And get pats on your back as the ages you pass,
But your final reward will be jahannam and tears,
If you've cheated the person in the glass.
Whispers of Satan, by Souladvisor
Stay in your bed, don’t make a fuss.
Your prayers can wait; give into your Nufs. (1)
What! Go to the mosque, the path you’ll pave?
Don’t bother, think of the gas you’ll save.
Why go the extra miles to be kind?
Don’t share that smile, they won’t mind!
Listen to your parents, why should you?
You’re big enough, don’t let them tell you what to do!
Don’t look at those orphans, what could they need?
You have your own problems, and family to feed.
Wear good hijob? Oh me, Oh my, you’ll be targeted as a Muslim and put to shame.
Just wear no makeup, and dress simple and plain.
Go for Jihad? No not you.
It’s not your problem, what can you do?
Don’t worry about Jennah, your place is reserved.
I promise you’ll get all you deserve.
Preach about Islam, and be nice?
Listen to me, and take my advice!!!
Don’t fast during Ramadan, you’ll feel dead.
Don’t go for Haj, the heat you’ll dread.
Why give charity, or feed the poor?
Don’t do it I say, They’ll just ask for more.
Don’t visit the Muslims, they’ll bite your back.
Don’t stop your work for prayer, it’s money you lack.
Then he makes you hoard your wealth.
He thinks while he talks, and laughs to himself.
You take me as your friend, and don’t give me a fight.
I’ll take you to hell to gain respite.
On the judgement day we will meet.
Allah’s plan we can not defeat.
Shatan thinks and thinks of more to say.
Say A’ oothoo billahi, and make him run away.
Dear believer, don’t let shatan put you to the test.
You can overcome him, just do your best.

Asalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah Bukhari :: Book 7 :: Volume 70 :: Hadith 547 Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, "The example of a believer is that of a fresh tender plant; from whatever direction the wind comes, it bends it, but when the wind becomes quiet, it becomes straight again. Similarly, a believer is afflicted with calamities (but he remains patient till Allah removes his difficulties.) And an impious wicked person is like a pine tree which keeps hard and straight till Allah cuts (breaks) it down when He wishes."

Thank you so much though. Yes, work is getting less and less flexible as we approach our annual fundraiser in November.
