About Me:
I am the coordinator of the Islamic Relief project, DAY of DIGNITY, on the Crow Creek Sioux reservation in central South Dakota. This is a sadaqa project initiated by Islamic Relief nation wide, that focuses on the poor & homeless in the US. While most Muslims assume (wrongly) that everyone in America is "RICH", there are many who are suffering in extreme poverty within the country. Many of us benefit from the oppression & suffering of those individuals.... especially when you look at the oppression & suffering of the Native American Indians who were forceably removed from their lands & whose lands now are being settled by Muslims & non-Muslims. This brings to us, as Muslims a responsibility to help, especially those suffering from injustices & oppression. While many may falsely think that "it happened two hundred years ago", the fact is it is happening NOW! Their lands continue to be taken. Their resources are continually being stripped from them. Muslims & non-Muslims alike benefit from this if they live in the US or financially are involved in the "global market" that includes the US market system. We are equivalent to the "illegal settlers in Palestine" who have "legally" gotten land from the government of Israel who took the lands illegally from the original inhabitants! Yet where are the Muslims when it comes to speaking out about these injustices? No where does it say that we should only care for injustices to Muslims... yet Muslims have gotten so blind that we frequently will help the oppressor -- rather than the oppressed! So here is a chance for Muslims to stop & think! Here is a chance to put our money & our time... where our rhetoric of "justice" has been! Here is a chance to show we care about people who are being treated unjustly! We encourage you to consider joining us in this struggle to bring economic opportunities & social justice to the Native American community of Crow Creek reservation. NOTE: Reservation does not mean the same thing as "reserve". These people are not allowed to truly govern themselves. They do not get money from the government & are not rich! These people are the poorest county (region) in the United States with less that $5000 annual income for most families! 80% unemployment rate due to the extreme isolation of the reservation. DECREASING life expectancy! Increasing Diseases within the population. Increasing suicide rates due to depression & dispair.
