Hasan al Basree, one of the Tabi'een, said:
A BELIEVER believes in what God has said. He is the best of men in his deeds, but HE FEARS GOD most, so that if he spends the size of a mountain of money, he would not be sure of his reward until he sees this with his own eyes. The MORE RIGHTEOUS and charitable the BELIEVER is, the MORE AFRAID of GOD he becomes.
While the HYPOCRITE says: Men are too many, I shall be forgiven. There is no harm on me. Thus HE ACTS BADLY, BUT WISHES MANY THINGS from GOD.

This wise saying reminds me of another saying which describes real belief according to Islam. Belief is not mere wishes but what you have in your heart which is confirmed by your deeds. This means that deeds are the real test of belief!!!

But how long will i live? Can i do good deeds until the end of my time? I am afraid of the the Day when i shall be brought back to Allah, because as an ordinary creature, i made much mistakes. I comitted to sins which sometimes i didn't realize it. If sins had an odour then you would not be able to sit with me (the saying of the Salaf, Muhammad ibn Waasi’)

The Prophet Muhammad sal-Allahu 'alayhi wa salam said: "All of the Children of Adam make mistakes, and the best of them are those who repent". How beautiful are the words of the repenting man who says, "I beseech you O’ Lord, in the name of Your honour, and by my ignominy that You have mercy on me. I beseech You in the name of Your Strength and my weaknesses, Your self-sufficiency and my dependence. To You I submit my sinning, guilty forelock. There is no refuge but with You, nor escape from You except to You. I plead to You O’ Lord, in the manner of the pleading of a destitute, and entreat You in the manner of a broken, down trodden man. I beseech You in the manner of a blind man in fear. This is a supplication, O’ Lord, from one whose head is bowed down before Your majesty, whose nose is in the dust, whose eyes are filled with tears and whose heart has submitted."
